Good Looking Grab Bars

Beauty & Safety in the Bathroom

Grab Bar & Escutcheon Trim Plate design is always on the move! Here is a selection of six grab bar choices that recently caught my eye. All great examples of universal design - providing function of a sturdy secure grip in the bath and dressy too, without an institutional look.

During construction, when walls are opened, structural blocking is put in place for these to function as grab bar - that might have a second purpose such as a towel bar, tissue paper holder or shelf in the shower. I like the shapes paired here with bar and trim plate design complimenting each other in simple and elegant ways. These are shown in Brushed Nickel but are available in many other finish options.

The following products are among some of my favorite things from bathroom product manufacturers, that I’ve specified for projects over time. From a variety of vanities to floor tiles, lighting and accessories - all have great functionality with beautiful and timeless design.

Universal & Aging-In-Place Design Features for the Bathroom

These beautifully designed wall mounted vanities by Native Trails are excellent choices for a bathroom created with universal aging-in-place practices in mind. Both wall mounted vanities here offer knee space for wheelchair access with very simple and elegant designs. Notice the one-handle faucets, an important ergonomic feature!

Have you ever stepped into a curbless shower?

A linear drain placed at the base of the wall offers an easy slope for wheelchair or walker access, plus your feet are not on top of it as with a drain located in the center.

Here is another version of a linear drain covered. For this application glass wall tile disappears into large floor tiles concealing the drain with a clean minimal look.

before & after

This Master Bath project focuses on ideas for better functionality and safety to suit changing needs and mobility issues. This was successfully accomplished by removing a tall, obsolete tub and enlarging the bathing area with a curb-less shower. A new vanity is designed to hold an easy access hamper and trash drawer, with LED lighting added at the vanity toe-kick for a night light. Heated floors, including the shower floor - add coziness and warmth for this 140 sq. ft space. No more throw rugs! The new entry is wider, with a sliding barn style door for much better access.
